What vegetables can grow around Delhi NCR?

Bhindi, tomatoes, palak or mooli? A starting point for choosing vegetables to grow in Delhi NCR, with the season and your kitchen in mind.

Hello friend. Before you buy ten packets of seeds, let’s settle one thing: what would you actually enjoy cooking? A garden full of vegetables nobody eats becomes a very different sort of project. Around Delhi NCR, the season gets a say too. Here’s how to put the two together.

Start with something you already eat

ICAR’s Delhi guidance includes familiar crops such as tomato, brinjal, chillies, okra, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot and radish. You probably know what to do with several of those in the kitchen. That’s a useful starting point for choosing your first crop.

They have different growing needs, though. Okra and brinjal are often considered for warmer periods, while many leafy greens and crops such as radish fit cooler conditions. Check the variety and current weather with a local grower before choosing a date.

If you’re planning for winter, the winter guide below gives you a smaller shortlist. If you already know what you want to grow, the calendar can help you work out which timing questions to ask.

Have this conversation before buying seeds

Let’s say you want to grow tomatoes. Ask which variety suits the current season, how much room it needs and roughly when you might expect to pick it. Then ask what could change that timing.

A seed packet can guide your planning, but it can’t promise a set number of tomatoes for next month’s salads. Leave some room for learning your space and seeing how the plants respond.

  • For everyday kitchen additions, ask about seasonally suitable herbs or greens.
  • To watch fruit develop, look into tomato, chilli, okra or brinjal at the right time of year.
  • If you’re growing with children, let them help choose a familiar vegetable and keep track of its changes.

How we’re thinking about crop choice at Kyari

We want you to start with the vegetables you enjoy, then choose from what suits the farm that season. Our growers will need to confirm those options before we offer them.

The first beds are still being prepared. While we work on the crop list and launch details, you can use these guides to get a feel for what growing around Delhi NCR involves. No need to decide everything today.
